Jane Rees – Art exhibition
To Sleep To Paint To Dream
The exhibition at the Regis Centre includes some of my previous sculpture work; a group of figures (wood and mixed media) some seven and eight feet tall. Their presence is key, as if constant voyeurs or guardians of the narrative of my work, like majestic siblings.
I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy about nine years ago and the accompanying Cataplexy leaves me unable to safely hold the sculpture tools etc anymore; as a consequence I have returned to painting; the paintbrush being a little safer than an angle-grinder!

GLEE:BY THE SEA
Singers are bringing Glee:By The Sea to Bognor Regis.
The music lovers have joined together to form the town’s first glee club.
Between 15 and 20 of them attended their initial meeting at the Regis Centre.
The seafront venue will be their base for weekly rehearsals between noon and 4pm on Sundays.
Richard Staplehurst, the club’s founder, said: “I want to open the glee club up to the community.
“Anyone aged from 17 to 25 who wants to come along to enjoy singing and socialising will be welcome to join in.
“I hope to open up sections for younger singers and for older adults as well so everyone gets the chance.”
The songs which will form the repertoire of Glee:By The Sea will be a mixture of modern chart tunes, hits from shows as well as a cappella and three-part harmonies. Dance routines will also form part of the performances.
The rehearsals will lead up to shows – probably every three months – in the Regis Centre’s Alexandra Theatre, said Bognor town centre resident Richard, 25.
“I am sure the club will be popular because there’s nothing else around here like it.
“There’s youth groups but where does a person go from there when they reach 17 or 18?
“I would also welcome members from any of the local performing groups as well.”
Glee:By The Sea revives a long-standing English tradition of singing clubs. They have survived in American schools and colleges. A series about one such choir has just began on the E4 television channel.
Richard graduated in performing arts from the University of Chichester. He is currently working with Bognor Regis Community College to expand its drama work with students. He also involved with creative development at the Regis Centre.
He sees the Glee Club idea expanding into week-long projects at the Regis Centre during the school holidays.
He added: “Having the meetings and performances at the centre will help to bring younger people into the building and, hopefully, get them interested in the other activities which go on there.”
Anyone interested in joining Glee:By The Sea should contact Richard by email: officialglee@live.co.uk, via the website www.wix.com/gleebythesea/gleebythesea or on 07837 510342.
