Saturday 17th October
To celebrate this remarkable achievement of enjoying 40 years as one of the UK’s most successful vocal groups , Sounds of the Seventies presents a musical extravaganza starring The New Seekers and special guests. The New Seekers dominated the pop charts throughout the seventies with their songs which included ‘Never Ending Song of Love’, ‘You Won’t Find Another Fool Like Me’, ‘Circles’, ‘I Get A Little Sentimental Over You’,’ Look What They’ve Done To My Song Ma’ and of course ‘I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing’ achieving record sales of 35 million!!! In 1972 the group represented the UK at Eurovision with ‘Beg, Steal or Borrow’ only months after performing for Her Majesty The Queen at The Royal Variety Show and also for President Nixon at The White House. The last three years have seen The New Seekers enjoy a remarkable career revival. A return to regular touring has found them appearing in many theatres and fabulous venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and St. James’s Palace where they were presented to Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall. They have received invitations to Buckingham Palace, released a live album and a new studio album ‘It’s Been Too Long’ is released July 2009. It is testament to the incredible talents of the group that they have survived the ever changing faces of the music industry along with the enduring quality of their hits, performed tonight, with new numbers during this entertaining and magical 40th anniversary concert tour. Adding to the excitement of the evening is a taste of The Mixtures who reached number 1 in the charts in the early seventies with The Pushbike Song and The Gee Bees performing some of the memorable songs from the legendary Bee Gees. A truly exciting and magical celebration of a wonderful decade.
